What is he thinking when he stares at you with a mouth full of stuffed toys. My dogs give me the same expression. Carrying them around is obviously very important to them but why?. He is so serious.

I love to buy Charlie something like a stuff animal But barely had the money for Charlie calendar Any picture of Charlie is beautiful No matter if he has his mouth stuffed with his toys, or looking/not at the camera He’ll always be beautiful

He looks so intent. Prey and play combined, I think. Great moment, as always.

Here’s a poem inspired by your wonderful recent tweet. Full credit will be given whenever I use it.

    At the Door.

In the morning, precise ovals in crisp snow
show how a deer came to my door last night.
I imagine a doe pacing unafraid across white
yard, knowing even the cat asleep at that cold
    hour, sometime past midnight.

No sound from house, only a gentle sluff of snow
falling from breeze-pushed twigs. She is curious,
hungry, drawn by exotic odors and wisps of
heat leaking from door and windowframes.

Her small herd is spread now, foraging in woods
nearby, but she is deer-wise with her six winters,
knows of kibble sometimes found in porch bowls,
edible flowers left in pots on warmer nights,
salty scraps dropped by children’s hands.

No offerings tonight. Humans slumber in privileged
ignorance as she sniffs lightly, whuffs a deer shrug,
crunches away too lightly to wake the dogs. Now I
look at her departing trail, wishing her a good winter.
