I had a hard time finding Charlie, but I did. So cute. He just blends in with his
    surroundings to well. Thank goodness!!!

This is a great picture. The color contrasts are very evocative.

Does that bush have eyes … or is that a ghost dog?

I love pics of Charlie like this where he is obscured by his natural surroundings. So coyote-ish! It would make a cool calendar to have only pics like this…a Where’s Charlie type theme. :)

    I saw a coyote!

This is in the city of San Diego. My parents live on the tip of Tecolote Canyon and we walk our dogs up and down the block, a portion of which is on the edge of the protected Tecoloty open space. We know there are coyotes living in the canyon.

But the other night we saw one. It was after dusk, the east still had a hint f the sunset’s color but it was not dark yet. Up ahead we saw what looked like a dog crossing the street and heading into the canyon. But I instantly realized that there was no person with this dog. It was a…coyote. My dog took off after it and chased it a bit but soon came back. Good thing as I wouldn’t want him meeting the coyote’s friends and suddenly be jumped by a pack.

But it was about the same size as my dog, same upright ears, but the coloring was more sandy with a darker back. For a minute I thought German Shepard but the face and body build were wrong.

    Kinda exciting.

This on top of my Dad being forced to kill a rattlesnake in the cul de sac last week. Three feet long and 14 rattles. First one in 50 years that we know of. The snakes don’t usually come up out of the canyons. But coyotes are known to come up and take cats. And we see red tail foxes, skunks, opossums, rabbits and red tailed hawks.

I know my Ramses got a good whiff because last night when we were walking he had his nose to the ground in one of the known coyote crossing spots. I’m sure he was remembering the scent of the one he chased.

I heard the coyote’s singing last night along with 2 barred owls throw in a few fox high pitch b^aaarks and squabbling racoons and have us a real symphony. Oh mlaiuppa please ask you dad not to hurt the rattle snakes as they are the mariachi element in the band:-) We have no rattlers here in Maine, Last one I saw was in WI. Live and let live thats me.
