It’s Electric

I got an email about Monday’s photo, asking how I keep Charlie within the fenced area, as the wooden rail fence in the picture looked easily breached. And easily breached it is! Charlie goes under and around that wooden rail fence multiple times a day.

The fence he never tests is one made of electric netting. I have a huge area fenced with electric netting fence, and the wooden fence in yesterday’s photo goes through that large area. I don’t think Charlie would run off and leave us, but I do worry about what would happen if someone saw a coyote wandering around, collar or not, and the electric netting keeps Charlie safe when he wants to be outside but I don’t.

I always wondered about that. Not that he would run off – but that some crazy person would hurt him without noticing the collar. Or not care that he has a collar. Better he stay safe in your “yard.”

Followup questions!: Is it expensive to keep the fence electrified? Do you only turn it on when he is out alone (can you even do that with electric fences?)? Now a segueway…do you have any solar to generate your own electricity?

Thought about you and Charlie when I read “Don Coyote” by Dayton O.Hyde.

Delighted he’s well-protected. You can’t imagine how it does my heart so much good to know he, & all farmily members, are so well-cared-for. Hooray for the electric fence! (Wonder if it helps against the marauding dogs – may God rest Ricardo’s rascally-goose soul.)

Don’t you think it’s fascinating that we all seem to think we know what Charlie is thinking just based on the moment that your camera captures?

I enjoy this site so much. You and he are so expressive.

I saw a coyote streak across the road in front of my truck as I drove to work this morning. I thought about how lucky Charlie and my two German Shorthair Pointers, Trigger asleep on the front seat and Louise asleep on the back seat, are in not having to constantly search for shelter and meals.

    I enjoy your website.

Happy Easter to you, Charlie and yours.
